Water Filter System

Water Filter Systems

There are quite a few different Water Filter Systems out there and I will try to tell you more about them on this page.
I will give you a brief introduction here and if you like to know more details then please follow the links in the descriptions and they will bring you to a more detailed explanation of water filtration systems.
Please don't be confused from so many different Water Filter Systems, it is actually quite easy to find the right one for you, because most of us are drinking municipal tap water, and that is not too difficult to clean and prepare for human consumption.

At some places the tap water is in very bad shape, full of chemicals and loaded with heavy metals, but mostly it is free from bacteria's and viruses, because the water is heavily chlorinated what kills every life form in that water.
The problem with this heavy chlorinating are the by products from this process.
Chloride on itself has no reported side effects, but if it get mixed up with other chemicals and heavy metals, it generates extreme toxic substances what are harmful to us.
Also the old municipal water piping contaminates our drinking water with lead and asbestos, what is very harmful for us, especially for children, elderly's and pregnant women.
So what we have to do ?
Filter out this bad substances from the water with a high end water filter systems and you are fine.
This can be done quite easy with a top quality carbon block filter, but please read again, I said a "Top Quality" filter.
Those filters you find in super markets and at the do it yourself markets are a joke and they filter only your pocket :-)
The problem is, there are about 2500 different products out there and more than 500 companies claim that their water filter systems are the best.
So how do YOU know what are the best water system ?
Knowledge :-)
There are only two main types of water filters,
sediment filters and activated carbon filters,
what working sometimes together in one filter unit.
Those filters produce fairly clean and save water and are very easy to maintain.
All what is needed is to change the filter cartridges regularly, normally once a year or after about 500-1000 gallons of water filtered, depends on the product.

Important is, that your water filter must remove particles down to 1 or better 0.5 micron, to remove cryptosporidia and giardia cysts, what are quite common in our drinking water.
Most filters on the market goes down to only 5 microns,
what is NOT enough !
Viruses cannot be removed by any water filter system.
There is one other water filter system, Reverse Osmosis, also called RO System, what produces almost chemically clean water, we will have also a closer look at that.
So lets have a brief look at the different filter systems.
